"Home is the nicest word there is."
~ Laura Ingalls Wilder
What is "home"? Can it be defined? I don't think so. Not in the way we typically define things. Home is more of a feeling, a connection, something that tugs at your heart in a way nothing else can. Home is that warmth that wraps you up when you're snuggled tight in your favorite chair, with a cup of coffee, the fire crackling beside you, and the world beyond your window in perfect snowy silence. It's cooking dinner with someone you love moving around the kitchen as if it's a dance you've rehearsed for years. Home is where laughter bounces off the walls when friends and family gather, where stories are told, and memories are made.
Home is a place. But it is SO much more than that! It is also a person. It is a collection of memories, moments shared, experiences lived. For me, Brad is home. <3
He is that steady, warm presence that I can always count on, the feeling of peace when the rest of the world feels out of control. Home is a Nebraska sunset over Chimney Rock, those vast wide-open spaces with fields of crops and cattle stretching out as far as the eye can see. There is something about the quiet beauty of the land that speaks to me, reminding me where I come from, and that is always and always will be home. A room full of Husker fans, sharing in the same excitement, that sense of community - that is home, too.
Home isn't simply four walls and a roof. It is the people, the places, the moments that matter most to you. It's different for everyone, and I think that's part of the beauty of it. In real estate, I am supposed to help people find their "home," but the truth is, home can look different for each person. It is not only about the square footage or how many bedrooms and bathrooms are in a house - it is about finding that place where you can build your own sense of belonging, your own memories.
I would love to know what "home" means to YOU! Maybe it's the sound of your kids playing in the backyard, or maybe it's a special chair where you sit and unwind after a long day. Maybe it's the scent of your favorite meal being cooked, or your favorite holiday surrounded by loved ones. Or maybe that special spot on the porch where you love to watch the sun go down.
For me, home is all of those things and more. It is the community I've built, the clients we help, the connections I cherish. Home is where my heart feels at peace.
What is home to you? Where do you find it?
