The Subtle Art of Humbly Asking for Help

September 24, 2025

"Sometimes the only answer people are looking for when they ask for help is that they won't have to face the problem alone.”

~ Mark Amend

In the fast-paced and ever-changing world of real estate, there is one skill that stands out above all others: the ability to ask for help when you need it. Many of us struggle with this because it feels like admitting defeat or showcasing our limitations. In reality, the most successful people know they don’t have all the answers and recognize the value of seeking guidance.

Asking for help is especially challenging in professional settings. We want to appear competent and self-sufficient. But the truth is, no one knows everything. We are all constantly learning, and this continuous learning is what drives progress. For me, having Brad, my husband with over 24 years of real estate experience, is a tremendous asset. He’s experienced almost everything, knows the ins and outs, or can quickly find the right answers. Yet, I sometimes hesitate to ask for even his help.

Why is it so hard? Maybe it's because was at the top of my game in my previous career. Transitioning to real estate has been a humbling experience. I’ve learned asking for help doesn’t mean you’re not capable; it means you’re wise enough to seek knowledge. My willingness to ask questions—sometimes even basic ones—has accelerated my growth in this field.

But it’s not just about asking for help; it’s about understanding why things are done a certain way. This approach has enriched my knowledge and deepened my appreciation for the intricacies of the field. It’s okay to admit you don’t know something. It’s okay to seek help. The real strength lies in recognizing when you need help and knowing whom to ask.

So, next time you find yourself stuck or unsure, remember it’s better to seek help and do things correctly than to fumble through and risk making mistakes. Embrace the power of asking for help—it’s a sign of strength, not weakness.
