Progress Over Perfection

September 24, 2025

"Perfectionism is the enemy of progress."

~ Winston Churchill

This weekend, us Husker fans felt the sting of another tough loss. Let's be honest - our team played ROUGH, and they know it. It was not pretty! But what we saw in those final minutes was a team that played the entire game, fighting to the end. For us forever fans, that's a step in the right direction. It shows us something we all need to remember: we don't need perfection; we need progress.

We've all had those rough days (or weeks...or years) when it feels like no matter how hard we try, the wins simply are not hitting. And sure, sometimes it's messy and awkward, and we are left wondering, "What's the point?" BUT those hard moments, the ones that don't go as planned? They're actually the building blocks for something bigger. When we keep moving forward, learning from each hit, we are adding strength and experience to our foundation.

Think about some of your own "greatest failures." How many times did something seem like the end of the world - only to find out later it was a blessing in disguise? A missed promotion, a layoff, a breakup, a Husker game that didn't go our way - whatever it was, it taught us something important. And usually we end up somewhere better, wiser, or simply more interesting because of it.

THAT is progress. We've been conditioned to think success looks like a big win, a high-five moment with confetti falling from the ceiling. But really, it is a slow, steady build - a small lesson here, a little bit of grit there. Some days we're trudging, not sprinting. Today is one of those days for me. But each day we show up, each calculated risk we take, we are one step closer to our goals, to our dreams.

Like the Huskers, we are all facing our own battles, whether it's a big goal, a personal dream, or simply staying patient through life's many plot twists. The key is to hang on and keep moving forward - even when we don't look very graceful doing it. Because staying down is NOT an option. Every time we pick ourselves back up, we are proving to ourselves that we are made of tougher stuff than any single setback.

Dylan, pick your head up - the wins will come! Keep pushing forward, making progress, and being proud to be a Husker.

Let's all own those rough patches, embrace the mess, and keep our eyes on what matters - Progress Over Perfection. Sometimes our ugliest plays turn out to be the best moments for growth. The true power lies in never giving up, always striving to be better, and finding a way to laugh at ourselves along the way.

Stay strong, Friends - and GO BIG RED!!! ❤️🖤
